How to use -> Check <-
Check is a utility to prevent your computer from being attacked by viruses.
It alarms you in case of being infected by virus and it also can possibly
repair your infected files.
In the NC-like enviroment ( reachable with "CHECK.EXE /E" ) you can select
up to 473 files which should be protected by Check. Check creates a file
called CHECK.DAT in his own directory ( you can change the path of CHECK.DAT
with the following command: CHECK.EXE /P:path\ ). After selecting the files
Check is going to control your files for any change each time you called it,
so it will be the best to put Check in your AUTOEXEC.BAT.
You can get a quick help with "CHECK.EXE /H" and by pressing the F1-key in
the selecting-mode.
Normaly Check keeps the first 256 bytes, the size and the date of each se-
lected file. You can advise Check to keep a checksum and the attributes, too.
This can be done by pressing one of the following keys, according to their
function: H,S,D,C,A. These keys change the default configuration for any new
selected file in the unzoom-mode (the one with two windows). In the zoom-mode
(reachable with F5 ) you can change the configuration separatly for each se-
lected file.
You can change the number of bytes which are saved by Check with F. But 256
bytes will be enough. These bytes are important for the repairing-feature
of Check. When a virus normaly infects an EXE-program, then it changes the
header and increases the size by copying itself at the end of the file.Check
tries to repair your files by truncating the file and restoring the header
with the help of the stored size and header-bytes.
